I have started some site work to expand my boat work area on the concrete slab (There use to be a masonry built garage on the slab until a mud slide in the late 1950's washed it away). The new areas are 8' x 8' and will be filled with 3/4" road base rock compacted. The plastic sheds will be moved off of the concrete slab

8'x8' PTDF frames

Plastic storage shed (Three more behind it)

Boat dolly (under blue plastic tarp)

The Sanger spent the winter under a tent and will be move up to the concrete slab and placed on the dolly.

If I didn't know any better you would think you were growing some green weed in there.

It would also be more profitable than restoring the old Sanger. Maybe with a good crop you could do both!!! Laughing

I have been looking for a period cam drive nut for the Neovane water pump for my project, now I have one.

I found out that the front Nicson engine mount is designed for a four hole water pump and will use a small Neovane pump instead of the larger V-105 pump that has only three mounting holes.

I just finished negotiating with the seller for these two parts. They were on a 60’s Sanger boat with a 392 HEMI that has been decommissioned.

The items will allow me to make a clean attachment of the transmission to the engine. The adapters are out of Castro Valley, CA.

I will not have to use a Wilcap adapter plate for a 454 marine bell housing to the 392.

The Chevrolet marine bell housing and the attached Borg Warner 71C (I now have two transmissions) will be put up for sale.

Quote:

Bob,

As I re-read the description of the cover at the back end of
your boat, I was reminded of a Sanger that my mentor owned back in
the early 60s. In fact, he is the guy who turned me onto mine as it
sat at the Sanger factory.

His name was Bob Holmes, and he lived in Santa Clara. He had a
Lincoln in his wood Sanger. And it had that "bustle" at the back end,
like yours. Here is a photo of him at the Berkeley Marina drags.

His son is now restoring a Wickens, up in Reno.

take care,

Garret

This new information on the 'bustle' answers my questions on page 6 of this thread.

After using copious amounts of degreasing fluids on some extra parts thrown in with the Nicson bell housing, I now have the Nicson transmission mounts (What a surprise) and some front engine mounts.

The engine mounts appear to be a more typical application becasue they seem to fit the original engine rails configurations.

This is the Nicson 249-4R (And 249-4 not shown)

This is the preliminary results from using an aircraft paint stripper on the aluminum bell housing and steel adapter plate and some rust remover for the rust at the bottom of the steel plate.

I find myself taking extra care in removing years of grime and paint, short of an archeological dig with brushes and scrapers. I am trying to maintain the original casting looks for these two items avoiding sanding and media blasting.

I have used bare aluminum acid cleaners (Hydrofluoric acid brighteners) and they seem to work well with the old parts. Now, I am going to ask if there is a product that someone has used to protect bare steel (I will think about using it on the engine/heads also).

The only casting mark on this item that was part of a 60’s Sanger that had all Nicson hardware is a NC-4 (I am hopeful that Nicson had this part number in one of their catalogs).

Wow, before I read your post I was thinking "new parts". You probably already know that we're real happy with Sharkhide. Here's a link if you'd like to check it out. Very Happy http://www.sharkhide.com/index.htm

Bob, for straight rust removal I've found this stuff to be the absolute very best:

http://www.evaporust.com/evaporust.html

It works amazingly well and is easy to deal with. I highly recommend it!

Here are a couple of before and after pics of a 3 jaw chuck I cleaned up. I did nothing more than soak the parts, lightly scrub with a small brass wire brush, rinse and dry:
Before:

After:

You can get it on ebay pretty reasonably.

Hey there napabob,
I regularly use Sharkhide Metal Protectant to coat unpainted metal parts. Water won't harm it, and once I've coated the parts, unless I scratch or scrape it off, it stays sealed for years.
